How we travel
We take pride in our customised touring vehicles.
All of our vehicles feature a high level of comfort, space and features and are fully compliant with New Zealand’s transport regulations as administered by Waka Kotahi – New Zealand Transport Agency.
Our fleet of immaculately maintained vehicles range from a 4WD mini-bus (for solo travellers, couples or groups of up to 4 travelling), a very comfortable mini-bus (for groups of up to 6 travellers) and a 12 seater mini-coach (for friends and groups of up to 10 travellers) and are dependable, practical and efficient.
In each vehicle we carry a full set of laminated South Island regional maps, binoculars, a selection of NZ reference books, bottled water, tissues, mints and nibbles to suit our guests’ dietary requirements. The vehicles also carry sun block, insect repellent, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, hand sanitizer and tissues. They all feature individual high backed seats with seat belts, double air-conditioning systems and PA / stereo systems, and all seats are fitted with woollen seat covers for passenger comfort.
In the rear of each vehicle, there is a cabinet which consists of a slide-out refrigerator and drawers that hold mugs, wine glasses, drinking glasses, plates and cutlery. For that something extra special, we serve delicious picnic morning and afternoon teas with New Zealand cookies, coffee and a selection of teas.
On the afternoon picnic stops, our tour guests are also offered NZ wine with cheese, crackers and homemade fruit paste, and Paula’s homemade treats are also offered to our guests. Luggage is carried separately in luggage trailers and not carried in the cabin.
Our Fleet
Wild 2
Wild 2 is a very rare Toyota 4WD mini-coach and was a 12-seater when we first purchased it. We have since retro-fitted six large ‘armchair’ style seats in the rear, which are fitted with lamb’s wool seat covers. This vehicle can accommodate up to six guests and is very spacious, and is ideal for one or two couples wishing to travel together.
Wild 3
Our latest vehicle, Wild 3 is a spacious mini-coach which has been customised with 6 luxury seats fitted in the rear (originally a 10 seater). It is particularly suited to two or three couples travelling on a long multi-day tour. Being a ‘safari’ vehicle, it also has a fridge and picnic-ware fitted in the rear. This vehicle also features large panoramic windows.
Wild 4
This is our largest vehicle and was a 17-seater when it was first purchased. It has been customised to accommodate up to 10 guests. It is also a ‘safari’ vehicle and is fully fitted with a refrigerator and all the necessary picnic equipment as per the other vehicles. This vehicle also features large panoramic windows, as well as individual overhead climate control vents and reading lights.
And finally – Wild 1,
the vehicle that started it all…
This vehicle is a large Mitsubishi Delica 4WD and is customised to accommodate two guests, and is the one that started Wildsouth Discovery.
Wild 1 also has roof windows for extra viewing capability. This vehicle is fully customised with high-lift suspension, which gives a higher view. It is a unique vehicle and is the only one of its kind in New Zealand. This vehicle is used for our ‘exploration’ trips and for bad winter weather conditions, if travel is necessary.
