Day Excursions from Christchurch
Our guests observered the transition from the mountains of the Southern Alps and the magnificent High Country back down across the Canterbury Plains to the city.
A lovely couple wanted to settle into their comfortable accommodation in Christchurch whilst exploring Canterbury’s varied attractions by means of day trips with us. We took them to Kaikoura where they did a Wings Over Whales flight and a coastal walk before returning to Christchurch with a wine tasting in Waipara on the way home.
The next day they enjoyed the TranzAlpine train trip to Arthur’s Pass, some wonderful short walks in the National Park, a visit to the dramatic Otira Gorge and a scenic trip back to Christchurch observing the transition from the mountains of the Southern Alps and the magnificent High Country back down across the Canterbury Plains to the city.
On their final day with us, we took them on a high scenic road to the beautiful Akaroa Harbour where they boarded their Dolphin Watch nature cruise. After a fascinating cruise during which they saw and learned about the local Hector’s Dolphins, white-flippered penguins, fur seals and sea-birds, we met them and showed them around the quaint French settlement town of Akaroa. A walk in the hills with wonderful views of the extinct volcanic crater which is Akaroa harbour finished off the day before our return to Christchurch.
They were able to have three very different experiences and to truly gain an insight into the contrasting landscapes, bird-life, sea-life and the results of the two recent earthquakes in Christchurch and Kaikoura.
